On the 25th July 2016 the European Commission adopted an investment of €8.5 billion to be released during 2017 into research and innovation, following an update of the Horizon 2020 Work Programme. This Work Programme confirms and updates details of the calls for proposals for 2017 that were first announced in October 2015 and indicates the deadlines and specificities applicants need to follow on their applications.

The Societal Challenge 2 part of this Work Programme, offers a budget of around €416 million to fund new actions in 2017 across 51 topics included in the four open calls:

• SFS-Sustainable Food Security
• BG-Blue Growth
• RR-Rural Renaissance
• BB-Biobased innovation for sustainable goods and services.

These calls will offer excellent opportunities to promote the collaboration between a wide range of stakeholders, namely from the primary sector, research institutes, universities and companies.

The submission deadline is 14 February 2017 (1st stage of the two-stage calls & single-stage calls).
