Joint Research Center, Ispra, Italy / 30.08.2016 - 02.09.2016

EU-AU-IIASA Evidence and Policy event on the Water-Energy-Food nexus

The event will take place at the Joint Research Center site in Ispra, Italy from 31st August to 2nd September 2016, with a preliminary inception day on 30th August 2016 for some participants. The programme includes some lectures and panels with high level policy makers and scientists, but mainly comprises a series of interactive masterclasses.  Participants will develop their working practices, skills, behaviour and methods, in both the scientific and policy-making domains via masterclasses and group work.

The event aims to meet the following main goals:

  1. Enhance participants’ skills in integrating evidence into policy-making;
  2. Create a community of practice that will continue to collaborate afterwards;
  3. Stimulate the participants to share their new skills and learning with their colleagues.

The event organizers are looking for applications from policy officers and scientists developing policy and conducting research in the field of the Water-Energy-Food nexus. European participants (both scientists and policy-makers) can apply until 20th May 2016.

All applications will be evaluated equally on the basis of their motivation statement and CV on the bases of the following evaluation criteria:

  • At least 2 years of work experience in the water – energy – food nexus,
  • Commitment to participate in the event for the whole duration of the seminar,
  • Strong motivation to use and provide evidence for policy,
  • Citizenship of an African state or EU Member State,
  • Proficiency in English,
  • For scientists: Participation in collaborative research projects funded by FP7, Horizon 2020, the AU Research Grants, Kwame Nkrumah Scientific awards, the ACP S&T Programme and the ERAfrica initiative will be considered an asset.

Successful candidates will be notified between end of May and beginning of June.
